What Is Educational Therapy?

What We Do
We provide individualized, research-based instruction that strengthens the underlying skills students need to become confident, capable learners.
How We Understand Your Child
We analyze assessment results to understand how a student learns and why they are struggling—then translate that information into a clear, targeted plan for growth.
Tutoring vs. Educational Therapy
Tutoring supports the day’s homework. Educational therapy strengthens the foundational skills and systems that make reading and learning easier long term.
Our Specialty
Educational therapy can support many areas of learning. Our practice focuses exclusively on reading intervention using gold-standard, evidence-based structured literacy programs.
Our Philosophy
Investing in Minds, Shaping Futures
We teach reading skills that open doors.
Early support makes a real difference. Research shows that when reading difficulties are addressed early, up to 70% of at-risk students can catch up to grade-level reading.
Early intervention builds strong foundations and prevents unnecessary struggle.
These skills support success in:
-
School (elementary through graduate level)
-
Work and meaningful goals
-
Communication and relationships
-
Everyday independence
The goal isn’t just progress this semester—
it’s capability that lasts.
Learning Challenges Are Real—and Addressable
If your child:
• Reads below grade level or avoids reading
• Gets overwhelmed by spelling or writing
• Feels discouraged, frustrated, or “behind”
They don’t need to try harder.
They need to learn how their brain learns best—how to work smarter, not harder. That’s where we come in.

Services
Reading, Writing, and Comprehension
At LA Ed Therapy, we are unique in that we are an educational therapy practice dedicated solely to reading support. Our niche is reading intervention—from mild reading challenges to dyslexia—and we work with students across a wide range of skill levels.
We support children who are just learning their letter sounds through students in upper elementary and middle school who are mastering more complex phonics patterns, building fluency, improving accuracy, and strengthening comprehension.
-
Structured literacy instruction grounded in the Wilson Reading System and other Orton–Gillingham–aligned approaches.
-
Integrated support across decoding, spelling, morphology, syntax, and comprehension (both literal and inferential).
-
Targeted fluency and written expression work to help students become confident, capable readers and writers.
-
Intervention tailored to students who may read slowly, experience accuracy challenges, or need structured support to understand and retain what they read.
Our approach builds accurate, fluent, and flexible readers, while strengthening confidence, independence, and a lifelong connection to literacy.
Consultation and Collaboration
We maintain regular communication with families, teachers, and specialists so that support is cohesive and aligned. We offer consultation on the whole learning process, because successful learning depends on all parts of the picture working together. Our goals are fully centered on the child’s progress and long-term success.

From Families and Colleagues
Tamara is a wonderful educator who made an immediate positive impression on my daughter. Her patience, clarity, and warmth helped her feel confident and engaged right away.
— Natalie S., Parent
Tamara is an absolute pleasure to work with. I was on her teaching team and learned so much from her. She’s always thinking about better ways to support learners and truly knows her students inside and out. While I miss her in the classroom, I take comfort in knowing I have someone exceptional to whom I can refer my struggling students.
— Kat Stott, Master Teacher
Tamara has a remarkable ability to see the whole child. She understands the underlying causes of academic struggles and designs instruction that is both strategic and deeply supportive. Students feel safe, understood, and genuinely motivated in her care.
— Learning Specialist
In the two years that Tamara taught at our school, her attentiveness to individual student needs were always paramount. She designed individual work for students that allowed them to work at their specific challenge place and reinforce the skills that they needed to strengthen. Tamara is kind, patient, and understanding when students need a different path than the whole class in order to reach understanding and demonstrate mastery. Any child (and family) would be lucky to be able to have her on their child's team.
— Shara Peters, Former Principal
Tamara’s work reflects the perfect balance of research-based practice and authentic connection. Her instruction is precise and intentional, yet she always centers the student’s emotional experience. She is one of the most thoughtful practitioners I know.
— Educational Therapist
Tamara taught me how to read. I love reading now!!
— Josh B., Student
We meet students where they learn best—at our Beverly Hills office, in their homes through concierge educational therapy, or online when indicated.
